Em Eats Manhattan

So here’s the deal. Em is almost nine months old and just now starting to eat solids. We started solids at six months and she didn’t take to it. That’s fine. We just sat it aside and tried a few weeks later. Still a no go. Okay…still fine. We tried again at 7 months and she still wasn’t thrilled. Now, I am starting to side eye this kid. What’s wrong with her? What am I doing wrong? I tried homemade food. She hated it. I tried jarred food. She hated it. I tried homemade food again. Guess what? She hated it!

So I gave up.

From months 7.5 – 8.5 I did nothing.

About a week ago I thought I would try again. Huston, we have lift off! Sure, she’s as slow as molasses running up hill in January when it comes to eating. And sure, she’s as picky as they come. The point is, she is eating and I am happy.

So far the things she likes include:

  • Bananas
  • Sweet potatoes
  • Celebration squash

The things she hates include:

  • Avocado
  • Green beans
  • Acorn squash

The things we still need to try:

  • Pear
  • Apple
  • Peaches
  • Plums
  • Melon
  • Butternut squash
  • Zucchini
  • Carrots
  • Eggplant
  • Pumpkin
  • White potatoes
  • Broccoli
  • Cauliflower
  • Cucumber
  • Eggs
  • Cheese

Jonathan loathed green beans. He would point a stern finger at them on his plate and command them to “stay there!”

Ha! He likes them now…I think. At least he says he does. Hopefully she too learns to like them.

My kids love potatoes and carrots when they were Em’s age. Bananas and apple were also appealing to their taste buds. Be careful on feeding her with eggs and cheese though.
